...at the time I thought my military and my government were more or less trustworthy. Now maybe not so much. Still I am not one who would glue themselves to a roadway or throw tomato soup on a priceless piece of art to "get my way" about some issue.

...WWII a necessary war for the same reasons that the Russo / Ukraine war is necessary. There are mentally unstable persons in positions of power and they cannot be allowed to run "willy nilly" thru other peoples lives leaving nothing but death and destruction. Sometime ya just have to "Bell the Cat".

I just re-read De's re-framing of your question, and I don't think that is an example of a straw man argument. And, quite notably, he is completely open about changing your question to one he can better answer (in a strawman argument, the substitution is surreptitious - intended to fool the unwary).

And he DOES answer that question. Further, his leaving WWII OUT of the list of wars he decidedly WOULDN'T advocate for, is extremely notable. So, I don't think his move (is that called making it a contra-positive?) is bad debate form. It's actually kind of smart!

So, I think his question for you is fair. Somewhere, you said something about not favoring the Vietnam War. Would you have wanted to participate in all the other wars on his list?
