Maybe. Maybe not.

Do you have any idea what happened to the Germans when they tried invading Russia? And then we Americans had provided Russia with enough planes and tanks and ammunition ... Russia, I think, would have been a tougher nut to crack for U.S. than when the Germans invaded.

Personally I don't think Russia should have been allowed to keep all those nations after WWII ... But we had the ravaged Western Europe to worry about getting back on its feet without trying to rebuild Eastern Europe.

Just a lil' historical perspective, here:

Winston Churchill expressed a desire to keep going and move against the Soviet Union at the end of World War II, as well. We had the atomic bomb and the Soviet Union did not. However, to truly pull this off, the Americans and the British would have had to be murderously ruthless and scorch the Soviet Union without mercy. Churchill knew this wouldn't fly with the American and British people because: (1) years of propaganda identified the Soviets as our "allies" in this war, (2) the American and British public were sick and tired of war and all the hardship that went along with it - they wouldn't want it extended against a supposed ally, and (3) the American and British people would not have the stomach for the vicious savagery that would have to be visited upon the Russian people in order to rid them of Uncle Joe and his merry band of Communists.
