An initial caveat: governments can eff up a wet dream - and almost ALWAYS do just that! Government is a necessary evil that has to be closely monitored and regulated because its machinations are cumbersome, incomprehensible, incompetent, and highly subject to corruption. I don't trust the bureaucratic monster known as the federal government as far as I can log-throw the Washington Monument - especially when tyrannical, power-hungry Democrats are at its helm.

Do I want to help the Ukrainians fend off Putin and bleed his armies dry? Yep - you betcha! BUT, I strongly prefer that our assistance be implemented in a VERY measured manner - give them ammunition, small arms, standard field artillery, Stingers, Javelins, etc. - but, I really do not want to give them highly sophisticated (and EXPENSIVE) weapons systems like Abrams tanks, warplanes, or intermediate range missiles. The Ukrainians need to understand that we will supply them with the basics, but this is their war, not ours - we are NOT their Sugar Daddy and will NOT prop up their government with bazillions of dollars in social spending. We cannot afford to financially bleed our own society dry and deplete our own military readiness by overspending on a proxy war going on 5,000 miles away. Zelenskyy needs to fully understand that our support is NOT a blank check - he and his people have to shoulder the burden of waging this war without some undue notion that we will swoop in to save the day if things go badly for them. Otherwise, we might as well just cut to the chase and declare war on Putin, now.

There is no easy answer, here. Like it or not, we have been the "Arsenal of Democracy" for quite a while, now, and we have tried to help other nations resist assaults from tyrannical regimes, but we also need to be judicious in how we involve ourselves to make sure our actions are ultimately in our own best interests.

Edmund Burke ~ "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
