But Kim Il-sung never managed to go back and conquer S. Korea. (And I would postulate that his death rendered him 'defeated'.)

In the first U.S. Iraq War saddam hussein was forced to cough up Kuwait. From what I remember reading, saddam hussein believed - till that hangmans noose was put on his neck - that Kuwait was supposed to be his.

We lost Vietnam. It was 're-united' the way N. Vietnam wanted it and 'We' never 'took it back'. (Not that I want to do anything at all to 'try and take it back'. I want to leave Vietnam to be it's own country.) In that sense Nixon was defeated.

Putin and Ukraine? At the moment I don't see Putin recognizing that Ukraine is not 'his'.

Re: “What is the difference between 'Putin Winning' and 'Putin not being defeated'?”
You're a military buff, so you know full well what the difference is. In the Korean war, Kim Il-sung did not win. But neither was he defeated.

In the Vietnam war, Nixon did not win, but neither was Nixon defeated.

In the Iraqi war, Saddam Hussein did not win and Saddam Hussein WAS defeated. When the war was concluded, there was no more Saddam Hussein.

Fizzy: The question was directed at you, so please speak up if I did not accurately summarize your meaning. It struck me as kind of obvious, though. I'm hoping Zimbler0 will tell us why he even asked it.
