City supervisors say the proposal is unrealistic given the city's budget, however. While not all the city's 50,000 Black residents would qualify for the full $5 million payment, the expense would nevertheless be untenable.

The 2024 annual budget for San Francisco's General Fund is $6.8 billion. I realize they say that not all 50,000 of San Francisco's black residents would qualify for the full $5 million payment, but just to put everything in perspective ... and given that 50,000 is the only number provided ... this ridiculous proposal would total $250 billion at the maximum. That's almost 37 years' worth of annual budgetary expenditures from San Francisco's General Fund (based on the 2024 budget) to make these proposed "reparation" payments. That is pure insanity ... especially when you consider that San Francisco's black residents are FAR, FAR, FAR better off today than if their forebears had remained in Africa.
