My Shopping List

I've just put "coffin" onto my shopping list.

Oh, my health is fine... relatively, speaking, of course. I'm not twenty anymore. But it occurred to me a few minutes ago how ridiculous it is to spend thousands of dollars on something that only gets used briefly AFTER I die. Does that make any sort of sense to anyone here? If I don't buy it ahead of time, my poor wife will have to pick it out. I figure that she'll have enough going on when I pass, what with burning my Peter Framton albums and looking for a new Bridge partner. Why should she have to worry about 'coffin shopping' too?

If I pick one up now, it's one less thing she'll have to deal with. She won't have any concerns about "Would he have liked this one?" Obviously I would since I chose it myself. The price is bound to be lower today than it will be when I croak. And, most significantly, a coffin is USEFUL if I buy it now. I could use it for years! There are any number of things a person could do with a large, sturdy box. I could keep gardening tools in it. Cereal could be kept there. I could use it to store DGpeddler's Playboy collection. It might even make a nice, albeit kind of expensive, liquor cabinet. My relatives and buddies could stop by the house and really tie one on while reminiscing about all the fun we'd had, simultaneously emptying a box that now, suddenly, has a new use. I think I'd like that.
