It’s for a 32 hr week. They’re hoping it will cause the employer to hire more people???

Goofy government officials trying to tell business owners how to pay people.

And property owners how much to charge for rent.

And they can’t figure out that reducing sentence of criminals will increase crime.

Re: “Maryland state bill for 32 hour work work. State would give any business of 30+ employees a $10,000 tax credit for instituting a 4 day workweek for their employees. ”
Very interesting. Especially the one I excerpted above.

Does the bill mean a 4-day workweek... which could be 4 tens? Or does it necessarily mean 4-eights?

Some implications of 4-eights include: Some of the employees would no longer be able to pay their bills and would be driven to bankruptcy. Some would quit their jobs rather than work only 32 hours. Some would seek (and vote for) government assistance programs... which would then grow. Some would move out of the state in search of full time work. Some employers would hire just to reach the 30-employee threshold, then would reduce hours. This would lower unemployment but increase poverty. Many businesses would reduce their hours or be open just four days per week. State taxes would rise to fund the tax credit to business owners and assistance to employees. Employee benefits would be cut. Employees would be pushed into Obamacare. Labor unions would have a surge in membership as employees try to fight back.

What else?

I just noticed that it's a $10k tax credit per business, not per employee. That's not going to convince many larger businesses to change anything. I wonder what happens to the 30+ employee businesses that ALREADY give their staff just 32 hours per week. Most likely, they'll get a $10k tax credit for doing nothing.

This bill is so stupid it was obviously written by someone on the Left.
