His middle name is "Why should I?" I'd never describe him as "smart." In fact, he might be, but he's the most willful mutt I've ever known. You tell him to sit and he'll lie down. You tell him to lie down and he'll sit. If he's halfway up on the chair you're on and you tell him "Up!" he'll get down... but if you say nothing, up he goes. Give him any of the same commands while holding a rolled up newspaper, or food, and wow, is he ever obedient!

your dog is the same coloring as mine and built very similarly with a slender long body.

The similarity was amazing to me. Mine is named "Charlie".

He's a Red Heeler / Shepherd, yellow lab mix. He's smarter than both my wife and myself.
