Zim: Thinking back, Fiz, I believe you said something about figuring out the cost versus reward for war . . . What is it worth to the people of the U.S. not to have state sanctioned terrorists trying to topple our skyscrapers? bin Laden's 'letter to America' http://www.theguardian.com/world/2002/nov/24/theobserver "Why are we fighting and opposing you? The answer is very simple: (1) Because you attacked us and continue to attack us." Zim, how would YOU feel if, say, Saudi Arabia interfered militarily, economically, and even politically in the US? Would it be okay if they ASSASSINATED or helped stage coups in the US? "As they sow, so shall they reap." I think the Bible says? "An eye for an eye?" You agree with the principle, yes?
There are around 1.8 BILLION muslims and the VAST MAJORITY of them live in countries the US has either shamelessly exploited, militarily invaded, or used other means to deny local self-determination. Unfortunately, it is also true in other regions, with other peoples. WE meddled in the middle east before anybody in the middle east meddled with us. What part of that is hard for you to understand? You wouldn't be ok if some other government did to YOURS what the US government has done to theirs. "What goes around comes around." What is it worth to the U.S. to have 'friends and allies' who will fight with U.S. against our common enemies? So why can't we keep our friends and allies in other countries and, also, keep our soldiers in our own borders when we are not formally at war? You know, like every other country on the planet is expeced to do?
The same way every other country, including the US before WW2, handles that problem, Zim: you RESPOND to force WITH force. You don't start, and you don't instigate, and you don't meddle in other in internal affairs of other countries. I have no problem with the US keeping a strong military, AT HOME, for self defense. How do we convince China and Russia that trying to subjugate the U.S. is a bad idea? These are intangibles. . . Hard to quantify the value. . . But if we don't achieve those objectives it will be only a matter of time before the U.S. ceases to exist. Zim. How about nukes? Also, by having a military which is well trained, and equipped, and trained, and kept at home pending some other country attacking us first. Have you noticed neither the US, nor any other country, has tried invading Russia, China, nor even puny N. Korea in recent years? Can you figure out why? Again: I have no problem with the US having a very strong and capable military, the best in the world, in fact. I have problems with foreign military advertures and meddling in other peoples' rights to self determination.
Now a couple easy questions for you: |
