You have a different point of view from ribit on what U.S. policy should or should not be in regard to supporting Ukraine against the Russian invasion and your "serious" response to get him to back down from his opinions is to "offer" to fly him, a man in his mid-seventies, to Ukraine so he can engage in combat against the Russians. Really?! Pfffttt. That's just childish posturing on your part.

Look, Fiz ... I'm probably a lot closer to your viewpoint on Ukraine than ribit's ... because: (1) I don't trust Brandon's administration or Zelenskyy's government - they're both corrupt as hell, (2) I would much rather help the Ukrainians by supplying them with more basic armaments (small arms, ammunition, artillery, and some more sophisticated, hand-held weapons systems like the Stinger and the Javelin), but only to the extent it doesn't drain our own armed forces too much, and (3) I would much rather hurt the Russians (and help us in the process!) by turning our domestic oil and gas industry loose to develop our own natural resources and drive down the price of oil and gas and dry up Russia's #1 source of funding. I want to see Ukraine bleed Putin dry ... and I don't mind helping them, somewhat... but I don't want our forces somehow drawn into that shooting gallery and I certainly don't want to hand Zelenskyy a blank check drawn on our already bankrupt accounts.

ribit wants Putin and his nasty regime ground into dust ... and I don't blame him one bit. He wants the United States to still be the Arsenal of Democracy ... and I get that and support that ... I just think it's not 1945 any longer and we have to be smarter in how we go about doing that, these days ... AND we are currently hamstrung by the undeniable fact that we do not have ANYONE in Brandon's administration who is intelligent enough to find their ass with both hands.

But, all that being said ... I find you to be a most unserious person with this "I'll buy you a ticket to Ukraine" nonsense just because you're frustrated that you can't get ribit to change his "the only good Russian is a dead Russian" mindset. ribit is absolutely 110% correct - Putin and his oppressive regime needs to die ... we just need to be judicious in how we help to make that happen.

Well, if they wanted to take me up on it, I meant it when I said I would buy the ticket. It would be interesting and would be a good way to shut me up...and probably make them feel better, too! At least for a little while.

And I paused a long while before I made the offer. None of that changes the fact that I would prefer they bring more of their fighting spirit closer to home. It amazes me we haven't seen a major uprising before now, and particular an uprising of former and current warriors who took an oath of office to defend the Constitution.

On the other hand, I guess the oath does create a bit of a double bind!

"(a) Enlistment Oath.—
Each person enlisting in an armed force shall take the following oath:

“I, __________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”

People who took that oath seem a lot more keen on following Brandon's orders than following their oath. Any idea what is going on in that regard? Did J6 really scare the soldiers who have faced bullets all that much? Or is it more like a brainwashing thing?
