...it's a long story but is based in my admiration for certain comedians, writers, philosophers and certain books. I can find a list of them somewhere around if ya interested.

...if you are a particle physics / math guy you probably aren't very funny. Your jokes would likely not be understood by us regular folks.

...no have not always been funny and there are some folks who would tell you I am not funny now. You would be surprised at how seldom ZZ enjoys any of my jokes.

Liberals are like a "Slinky". Totally useless, but somehow ya can't help but smile when you see one tumble down a flight of stairs!

Yeah, I agree that humor is way better than not! But what about my question: Did you recall deliberately cultivating this skill, or were you always the one with the wisecracks from age 3 on?

Once upon a time I considered studying standup comedy. Not because I thought I would be a natural but precisely because I wasn't. I chickened out. It would have been a very bloody/painful road if I'd tried, and then tried to improve. No “natural” at all. But I still sometimes look at my books on humor and anatomy of standup comedy and wonder how different I would be right now if I'd just chosen differently. You know, if I'd had a little more courage and determination to make that a priority (instead of studying math and particle physics).
