Well, at that time of the night, you wouldn’t expect an army of cops on an almost empty highway. Actually the tickets were issued in two different towns, and their courts.
I didn’t even flinch an eye. I was looking to get home.
Another time I fell asleep on the Taconic, at 4:30am, after Pleasantville, and woke up by the sound the car made scraping the middle metal barrier. For some reason only the left wheel was damaged and tire was flat, and I stopped on the side of the road, tired and sleepy and very upset that I wouldn’t be able to get home soon, so I had to decide to sleep there for a while and change the tire in the morning light, or change it and be done with it. So, that’s what I did, real fast with maddening speed. Left the old wheel right there and got home as it was still dark.
Another time I got caught out of gas, again at 3am, in a snow squall in March. I was lucky as after 10mins a guy came by and stopped and took me past 84 to a gas station, where I used the phone to call my wife to come and get me and take some gas back to the car and drive home.
Lots of ”adventures” on that road. I could write a book.
