Around here, Jøtul is widely recognized as one of the better brands of wood stoves. My current stove is a Jøtul. I was, therefore, very interested when my wife found the stove below advertised by a motivated seller for $1,000.

That might seem like a lot to those of you who don't use them, but as the specs below show, it's more than enough to warm either floor of the new house. My plan is to buy two such stoves, not necessarily identical but each suitable for 2,000 square feet. The stove's weight, though, was a problem. At 475 lbs, it's probably what micro used to strap on prior to his games, as part of his warmup lap. But *I* can't lift it. Not even close. And I don't know people here willing to help with that.

Last night I spoke to a mover at U-Haul. Nope. He'll move pianos, but not wood stoves. Too heavy. Too difficult to control. He said that *IF* he did it, he'd charge $450.

This morning I spoke with a chimney-service guy. He can move it, but his schedule is full and he may not be able to do it for two weeks. He quoted me $200 to $300. The seller is moving by the end of next week, so this option won't work.

Finally, we visited the seller and looked at the stove. It's nice. The seller put it in storage 8 years ago when he moved to a wood pellet stove, so it doesn't look like it's got too many hours on it. I told him I would buy it if he could transport it for me. "13 miles," I told him. "And it will go into our basement via our garage. No stairs are involved."

He thought about it. I told him that I wasn't expecting him to do it for free. "How about $150?" I asked. He said that was the price he had in mind.

So we're good. I left him a $150 deposit, and he'll call me next week when he and his friend are ready to transport it. I'll drive to his place and lead the way. His buddy is currently traveling in the Midwest.

I'm happy, especially now that I'm seeing that this model is rated at 2,500 sq ft. My current Jøtul is prettier and has two loading doors, but it's only rated at 1,900 sq ft.

Online, I'm finding that the Jøtul F55 V2 Carrabassett (the one I just bought must be a V1) has a MSRP of $3,499.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
