Exactly! So let's subtract 5 from both sides to isolate 'x.'

So it becomes 3x - 5 = 7 - 5, which simplifies to 3x - 5 = 2.

We can add 5 to both sides, so 3x - 5 + 5 equals 2 + 5.

Personally,
If I was paying for a script for a TV program I'd fire the clown that wrote this.

Kami Cotler, who played the youngest daughter, Elizabeth, on the TV show the Waltons, posted the following on Facebook:

Has anyone played with ChatGPT, the new artificial intelligence chatbot? We asked it to write a scene for The Waltons, featuring Elizabeth and you can see what it came up with below. I'll share my thoughts after you all tell me what you think.

INT. WALTONS' LIVING ROOM - DAY

Elizabeth, a bright and spirited young girl with braided hair, sits on the worn-out couch, surrounded by her family. The room is cozy, with a crackling fire in the fireplace.

Elizabeth, holding a book, looks up at her older sister, Erin, who sits on a chair nearby.

ELIZABETH

Erin, can you help me with my homework? I'm stuck on this math problem.

Erin smiles warmly and puts down her knitting.

ERIN

Of course, Elizabeth. Let's take a look.

Elizabeth eagerly hands her notebook to Erin, who studies the problem carefully.

ERIN

Okay, let's break it down. You need to find the value of 'x,' right?

Elizabeth nods, her eyes fixed on Erin.

ERIN (CONT'D)

Well, you remember how we solve equations, right? We can use inverse operations.

Elizabeth's face lights up with understanding.

ELIZABETH

Yeah, I remember now! We have to do the opposite of what's happening to 'x.'

Erin pats Elizabeth's shoulder, proud of her sister's progress.

ERIN

Exactly! So let's subtract 5 from both sides to isolate 'x.'

Elizabeth eagerly follows along, grabbing a pencil and writing down the steps.

ELIZABETH

So it becomes 3x - 5 = 7 - 5, which simplifies to 3x - 5 = 2.

Erin beams with pride.

ERIN

That's it! Now, to get 'x' alone, we need to get rid of the -5. What can we do?

Elizabeth's brows furrow in concentration.

ELIZABETH

We can add 5 to both sides, so 3x - 5 + 5 equals 2 + 5.

Erin nods encouragingly.

ERIN

Fantastic! So, what's the final equation?

Elizabeth's eyes sparkle with excitement as she solves the equation.

ELIZABETH

3x equals 7! And to find 'x,' we divide both sides by 3. That gives us x equals 7 divided by 3, which is 2 and one-third!

Erin claps her hands, genuinely impressed.

ERIN

Well done, Elizabeth! You've got it!

The rest of the family, gathered around, applauds Elizabeth's accomplishment. John-Boy, her older brother, gives her a playful pat on the back.

JOHN-BOY

Looks like we have a little math genius in the making!

Elizabeth blushes, bashful but proud.

ELIZABETH

Thanks, everyone! I couldn't have done it without Erin's help.

ERIN

You did the hard work, Elizabeth. I'm just here to guide you. I'm proud of you, little sister.

Elizabeth's smile brightens the room as the family continues their joyful support and celebration.

FADE OUT.
