If I was writing this . . I'd have used a more intricate equation like :

2x^2 + 5 = 55 (subtract 5 from both sides)
2x^2 = 50 (divide both sides by 2)
x^2 = 25 (Take the square root of both sides and Voila :
x = 5

Being more intricate means the child does not come off looking like a total moron, and there are still three operations to perform to get the value of x.

Apparently, the original equation that Elizabeth was tasked with solving was 3x = 7. If so, why did "AI" take us through the quite arbitrary process of first subtracting 5 from both sides and then adding 5 back to each side? Did it deem that the script needed some filler time to meet the necessary 45 minutes (or so) of content to make for a 1-hour episode w/ commercials?
