I called the initial Russia invasion of Ukraine, together with the US weaponization of the USD/SWIFT system, the start of WW3 (and, sometimes the start of WW4).
Some people only call a war when both sides formally declare a war - until then they use euphemisms like "police action". But it is no longer fashionable to declare a war, so I don't think that works very well.

I've heard that no wartime president has lost a re-election in the last 100 years; the problem of re-election starts when the war ends or peters out, and people begin talking, complaining, and comparing notes again. So, I can't see Biden allowing the drama to wind down until after Nov 2024. Indeed, too many people are complaining about the existing war too much already. So maybe Biden will try for more kinetics and drama?
