De
I agree with you on the purpose of memorial day and as a Combat Veteran I appreciate more than most the ability to be able to speak about it. 6 feet under does not yield the same abilities as you know! lol!!!!
Memorial Day.
Re: In memory of
Those who have gone on before and gave the ultimate sacrifice. "Greater love has no man than this: that a man lay down his life for his country".
Those were some very chilling words and speak to the courage of those who did just that.
Hence, we take time to remember on Memorial Day..
I think of Ribs because he is older than me and yet he, like me, by the grace of God, came home upright from Vietnam. Great place to visit. Don't want to be there or stay there.
So my perspective is a little different and not strict as I donate wreaths to fallen brothers in arms graves several times a year. I visit the Wall when I am in Washington and I have been there half a dozen times now and found the names of brothers who dies in battle next to me.
That said, in memory of one's service and escaped death in the war, I am grateful they were there before me.
SO, I respect Ribit for what he has done and where he was and he is still with us. I understand what you are saying De and technically you are 100 percent right.
There is a memorial Park about half a mile from my home. They have a memorial and a Huey medivac like was used in Vietnam. There are Bricks with the names of the fallen on them neatly arranged and well maintained.
I visit there regularly because of proximity. I go to The Wall because of the brothers in arms that I knew whose names are found there. And yes, it is an emotional time.
MAny memories come back vividly from the fight they lost their lives in.
So, I am just glad Ribit came back home. I am grateful God brought me back home. I easily could have my name on that wall as many in my Platoon do and a higher percentage of my squad. So any time of remembrance of WAR and all that entails , at least for goes back to the lucky ones who came back alive and not crippled for life from wounds they received.
I just wanted you to know why I told Ribs that on Memorial Day. One day I won't be able to do that because one of us or the other will have gone on..
Hope you understand. Not trying to be argumentative at all. Just explaining...
Have a wonderful Day De!
My familywill be here in half an hour so I need to get the grill fired up and heating. Lot of cooking to do yet..
My Best,
