From what I've been reading, Putin's goal is to re-constitute the old Soviet Empire. And from the armed invasion of Ukraine it appears he is willing to do so by invasion after invasion after invasion.

War after War after War.

If we 'let' Russia seize Ukraine . . . who's next? Do we continue to allow Russia to expand?

And then we have China - another empire out to expand. China has been nibbling at India's real estate. China is claiming the entire South China Sea. China has been unlawfully poaching the Philippines fishing grounds and China is currently in a little fracas concerning Vietnams offshore oil resources. Oh, and let us not forget China's ongoing plans for invading Taiwan.

Empires like to expand.

Russia is trying to expand their empire. China is trying to expand its empire. But the United States gave up expanding its empire right after WWII.

How does one stop the expansion of foreign empires?

A while back, I told you that I could see in your posts how your head was being affected by your health and medications. I can now tell you that you're obviously on the improve. The old micro is back - and I'm glad to see him!

Confidentially (don't tell ribit... it'll go right to his head), I'm glad the both of you made it back from Vietnam. I think it's a tragedy that we've lost so many of our young men to war. But I also think it's tragic that we've cost so many other countries THEIR young men. War is the ultimate in suck and I don't like what history is going to say about the United States today: That it is 'the bad guy.' I agree with Fiz that we should be making every reasonable effort to decrease unnecessary deaths instead of increasing them. Did we do that with Ukraine? Of course not. We precipitated what's happening by encouraging Ukraine to join NATO, and now we've escalated the conflict. Who knows when and how it will end or how many more will die?.
