In other news, I bought a used HP Pavilion s5710f ($419.99 list, at Staples in June 2012) last weekend for $10 at a yard sale. The seller said it was about ten years old and that she'd removed the hard drive. I figured it to be a bit older and was correct - it's ELEVEN years old.

The review I'm reading says that HP tried to strip the computer a bit too much - perhaps in order to meet a desired price point. So I'm not expecting too much from this one.

The last time I tried to install Windows, I found that the installation disk had expired. (Did you know about this problem, micro?) My plan is to set the computer's clock to 2017 or so, then see if the OS will install. If the computer isn't on the internet, how could the installation disk possibly know that it's actually 2023? Once the date is corrected to 2023, I seriously doubt that the OS will simply die. That would be incredibly rude of Microsoft and might even set the company up for lawsuits from legitimate customers.
