Boss,
Direct Stock Purchase Plans - investing in conservative type companies which pay dividends and like to increase the dividends. Put them in your wifes name and have the dividends direct deposited into her checking account. That way she will have at least some income when you pass.

A few companies that do have such plans are Campbells, Eastman Chemical, Kimberly Clark, McCormick. For power companies I like BKH (Black Hills Corp.) and OGE (OGE Energy - mostly in Oklahoma).

I would also suggest looking up 'Dividend Kings' and 'Dividend Aristocrats'.

A diversified portfolio will also lend some protection against catastrophic failure.

Lastly, under current law, these investments should pass on to her (and your) children when she passes.

Zim.

Congenital Heart Failure.

If you read about it and the average length of time a person who has this lives after they have been diagnosed, it is on AVERAGE 5 years.. Not ten...

I don't want to be as old Ribit when I die anyway..

That's a little discouraging because it is not very long in the scheme of time..

So I guess I had best get my affairs in order and make sure Miz micro can find everything that will affect her without any difficulty and get her hands on the savings and investments since she will lose what she gets in social security (half of what I get), so that will be one third less money plus there won't be anymore normal income from consulting.

Like most, we owe nothing and have no debt. Everything is paid for.. I guess I better finish the remodeling projects before I depart...

I am a bit bummed out as longevity runs in my family on the male side. Amazing how quickly our plans can be turned upside down..
