Well Boss,
There was a time in this country when Gold was a major currency . . .

But Fiz's posting was about the 'BRICS' countries (most notably Russia and China) making a new 'currency' that would be gold backed and remove the U.S. Dollar from the 'worlds reserve currency'.

In my opinion . . .
Losing 'world reserve currency' status would be a bad thing for U.S.

Russia and China with a 'new reserve currency' could be a very good thing for them - as in they could indulge in a LOT more deficit spending than they can now.

And I'm hoping that Russia and China have a very hard time doing this . . . As I hope (and suspect) that most countries do not really trust them.

I think gold is good for some things but NOT as a currency.

It could BACK a currency as long as the backing is certifiably done by independent auditors not beholden to the Gubmint... Or any of its assasin organizations..
