Why did the last ice age end?

Nearly 10,000 years ago, Earth came out of its most recent ice age. Vast, icy swaths of land around the poles thawed, melting the glaciers that had covered them for nearly 100,000 years.

In a nutshell, 'They' do not know why the last ice age ended.

But, they do have an interesting graphic - which claims that the earth's orbit changes in eccentricity in a 100,000 year cycle.

Now it seems to me that if the earth is further away from the sun for a while, the earth will receive less solar energy and we will get 'global cooling' - i.e. an ice age.

When the earth moves closer to the sun, more solar energy hits the earth, and we have a warming period.

But what do I know?

Zim.
