I think its safe to say that that it by FAR the biggest factor.
Not to change the subject but have we thought anything about the effects of the gravitational pull of our sun on the climate of our planet? I suspect that has something to do with it also.. just thinking out loud.. I have no idea...

And how far the earth is from that BIG ball of fire has a LOT to do with how much energy delivered to our planet.
