Today we drove 90 minutes east to pick up our auction wins, then headed to my wife's favorite thrift store (which bored me for an hour), then headed home. Around 3 p.m. we spotted and stopped at a yard sale. Normally, I wouldn't expect to see many on a Sunday, but it rained Saturday and so there were quite a few.

They must have been close to shutting down, because a woman at the sale immediately tried to talk me into filling a paper bag for $5. I told her I needed to look around first. I didn't initially see much of interest, but then I spotted an interesting dish. A green dish. I called my wife over and she agreed that it might be uranium glass. We had our keychain black lights, but in the sunlight it was hard to be sure.

"What about those?" I asked, pointing across the table to a stack of green plates. "No," she said. "I don't think so." But we tried the black light on them and thought they MIGHT be glowing.

So I bought a $5 paper bag, put in the plates (nine in total) and then loaded the bag with other things like new corkscrews, electric light timers and I don't even know what else.

We headed to the new house to unload. While there, we used a closet to check out the plates, and... they glow.

We have 1 of the brightly glowing plate, 3 of the flower plate, and 5 of the swirled-edge plate. Stores in this area (and online) would likely charge $90 to $150 for them all. The first plate clearly has more uranium in it than the others. It's probably worth the most.

And so our collection grows. Three photos follow.
