Walking off the plane in Athens is an instant valium shot. No worries about assholes with guns, no worries about political assholes, just none of the shit in one’s mind in many places in America. The place, the America I once considered to be “free” is no longer free. It is a place where votes are gerrymandered, stupid Puritan minorities rule, people shoot at first thought, questions later, and on and FKING ON!
No wonder Greece has become a DESTINATION. People are free here, no one is getting assaulted, political stickers on cars and yards are nowhere to be seen, people just go about their lives and business and let others do the same. No in your face bullshit. Even the few anarchists seem to have gotten the message and taken a break.
Greeks watching the news from the States have a stunned look. They can’t believe what they hear and see. They know what it is, they just can’t fathom what is going on.
Walking the streets, even where there are crowds is peaceful and CIVILIZED.
Sleeping with windows wide open in the country allows me to sleep almost right thru the night, breathing cool effervescent DRY air, no clogged nose, just pleasure of deep sleep. The scents from the myriad of flowers and herbs growing would spoil one immensely. The availability of excellent produce, food, and wine at half or less the US prices is amazing.
Things are getting more expensive though, especially in the thousands of tourist destinations and big cities, and real estate is exploding everywhere..
I could easily live here from April to November NO QUESTIONS ASKED, perhaps longer even. Working on it. Hanging out with this side of family, cousins, friends is an elixir.
