JFK is a zoo, has some terminals that are airline terminals like Jetblue and Delta, etc., and an International arrivals one for multiple airlines and the whole airport is a mess to navigate and switch flights. We had to walk for ten minutes from the gate to customs, and that was the Delta terminal. Imagine having to switch to another airline.
Some of the airports I’ve been through that I can remember were under construction/modification and a pain. Charles de Gail in Paris, Fiumicino in Rome, etc. Others I can’t remember. Denver, ok, Salt Lake City confusing, the Brussels airport had an awesome two level gates area, I think. They all have melted into gray. Frankfurt, Geneva, Munich, Milan, etc., I think they have all been updated due to tremendously increased traffic. Athens is smaller, but it looked really good this time, and it still accommodated 23 million passengers in June a 22% increase from last year. We went through in no time and it was packed. Planes were full. Not a single empty seat. Impressed with Delta. Huge change. Last time years ago they sucked, bad attitudes, crappy food, old planes. Now, everything reversed 180 degrees. Great service, good food, free drinks galore, lots of smiles despite the load, happy people doing a job they like, modern planes, onboard entertainment, wifi, etc.
Haven’t gone anywhere since late 2019 before Covid, which put a stranglehold on my travels.
I look for cleanliness, open spaces, not people bunched up together, quick transfers, not labyrinths and trains/buses, efficiency, quick processing. Train transfers are ok as in Paris, if they are easily accessible from terminals which is almost true for that one.
Anyway: I hate airports. I like small ones, in and out, thank you ma’am……
