So, I was supposed to be in Florida, West Palm Beach airport, on Friday night. About 3 hours before going to airport message comes in flight cancelled. Switched us to a 8 am Sat morning flight, but now to Fort Lauderdale, further away from my place. Around 5am message comes in flight cancelled. New flight leaves at 10:30. Get to Kennedy, go to gate, flight now leaves at. 11:30. Ok, we get on, captain says we’ll have weather when down there. No shit. Storms forced him to go across north Florida, come down the west coast instead of east, then to the south tip across the Everglades, announces that we are going to Miami International instead because we can’t land in Fort Lauderdale. Airport has a weather stoppage. Severe storms where pounding the area. We land at Miami, go to a gate, announcement comes says if you get off here, your bags will go to Fort Lauderdale. You’re on your own. We are refueling and will fly to Fort Lauderdale shortly. Those with no checked luggage buzzed off, plane half empty, waited about an hour there, they started doing calculations on weight balancing the plane with fuel, where to put it etc., then we pulled out, took off, and 10 mins later were circling around the Fort Lauderdale airport and landed again. When we disembarked, the gates at the terminal were a zoo. Flights delayed, flights cancelled, long lines at kiosks, a whole lot of shithole.
Bags took a half hour to start coming out……
Got home at …..6! A 2 1/2 hour flight took 5 hours and a whole day of my time ……..err two days.
That’s your US weather in a nutshell. It’s been crazy since before July 4th weekend. Hundreds of flights delayed/cancelled. Haven’t seen shit like that before. And they’re now saying this is going to be a “hot” summer season. “Hot” as in BAD.
But, Greece was worth it.
