Conquered, meaning taken by force? The LAnd was not ceded or sold, it was just taken because there were more of us than them?

Is that the basis of the argument?

I am part Seneca Indian. The Seneca are part of the Iroquois nation. It is on my grandmother's side of the family.

I understand that from an historical view almost ALL lands and nations in the entire world we know today were taken by force, or, conquered at some time. Attila the Hun is a great example of conquering lots of land in his drive toward Europe.

So who's land is it really? I am not smart enough to actually know but because the European people who migrated to these shores kept moving out of the east coast and went north and west and south they were bound to run into lands long controlled, perhaps "owned" by indigenous people.

IMO just because someone else comes along and by force takes something from you does not make it change ownership. It makes it stolen.. Had there been an offer to sell and and a price paid for that was negotiated with both sides agreeing on a fair deal , not under the barrel of a thousand rifles pointed at you, we could say the land was purchased with complete agreement of free will. But I do not believe "free will" to give up land was granted nor given to the native American Indians.

So, it was "taken by force" and the settlers came in droves out west to occupy with the United StAtes Army and cavalry to protect them from the people who roamed and used this land for hundreds of years long before we got there.

Conquered versus stolen is kinda splitting hairs imo.

If it was not a MUTUAL agreement, why did it have to be conquered and just TAKEN by force? Kinda seems like stolen is appropriate verbage..

We aren't giving it back so this is just an exercise in semantics and logic but its kind of hard to say it was an agreement when the "seller" is staring down the barrels of a thousand rifles....

That's just how I see it.. I am not saying it was right or wrong as I know it was a complicated issue and I Am glad I did not live during that period of time..

I can see this parsing of words going either direction... NAd I have no ponies or dogs in this race... lol!!!!!!!!

Tribal Leader Would Like Ben & Jerry to Return Stolen Land

How has conquered land suddenly become ‘stolen land’?
