All the years I was growing up in Athens, we never had “wild” fires. One time we had some type of African air that came up and it was 118 degrees. I don’t think it ever has got to that point again, although some days of up to 110 happened every summer. The 3 beautiful mountains surrounding Athens were full of pine forests and other trees. Now, their burned sides are seen from every angle. This all started in the mid eighties with assholes burning forests so they can be off the “forested area” list and can be built upon. Others, anarchists just did it to create chaos.
Now, fires are a given every summer. Three days ago three fires started within an hour of each other around the Athens area. Since then, more started around the country. It smells like a setup to me. They arrested a guy who set two fires himself. Don’t know why. It’s a disease. I know this did not happen prior to the mid eighties. We had very hot weather then and no fires. We had a pristine environment.
Anyway, it is very annoying. For example, why is Italy with much more heat these days having no fires?
Destroying their own land is fing stupid.
