The latest auction didn't go so well for me in terms of quantity but I'm happy. I only spent $29 plus a 20% auctionhouse fee, so $34.80. For that, I got a fancy strobe light, a vase, and a framed sketch.

But... about that sketch:

It was listed toward the end. Going into the auction, it had zero bids. I thought it was kind of nice though, so I had my wife put an early $1 bid on it. Then I did a little research and got kind of jazzed. I had a considerably higher ceiling in mind, but as it turned out, that was all it took. There were no other bids. I got it for one dollar.

The sketch was done by Emily Burling Waite ( Born Worcester, MA 1887 - Died 1980 ). The Smithsonian Institute art website has a page devoted to her and owns eight of her etchings!
http://americanart.si.edu/search/artworks?content_type=artwork&persons[]=6013 Per Wikipedia, "Her work is included in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Smithsonian American Art Museum; and the Metropolitan Museum of Art." And I just landed an original of hers for a measly buck.
