My wife heard that a neighboring town's theatre company was having a rummage sale, so we set out about 8:30 to see what it had. The drive was longer than expected, and on the way we saw only two yard sales. Based on that, I'd have expected the day to be a bust, but it ended up being one of the best I can remember. That second sale had a mid-sized chest freezer for $75 and I've been wanting one. I offered $60 and got it. As quick as that the car was nearly full and the day was already good despite there not being many sales.

We found the rummage sale to be a small part of the town-wide "Riverfest" festival. I really like small town events. The only rummage sale item I saw that I wanted was a brand new, extremely heavy set of Oneida silverware for $15. I offered $10 and got it.

Most of Riverfest was craft booths, and that didn't do anything for me, but I did sit down for an outdoor recital - mostly piano, but also cello - by students of the town's music store. Except for the rock band at the end, none of them were any good. The rock band (kids) played 'The Pretender' by Foo Fighters. I liked that.

We left Riverfest around noon and soon came across a Moving Sale in the same town. For $15 we bought a large set of matching china. That was good. What we have in our current place is a mishmash of dishes, bowls and teacups, no two of which are the same, and which don't seem right for our nice, new and kind of fancy house. Now we've got a matching set of large and small plates, gravy dishes, salt and pepper shakers, teacups, saucers, serving plates, bowls and more. $15.

My wife looked around their house some more and found a cordless vacuum for $15. We bought that too. Should be good for doing a daily cleanup of the floors my dog uses.

Next, we found an estate sale. My wife found a whole bunch of Sherlock Holmes books. I'm not sure what it cost, but I think she took it all. I found science fiction books, and my database really paid off by telling me which ones were duplicates. More than half were left behind. Inside, I found a collection of eight full-sized Hummel figurines for $80. I bought those, and they threw in a Hummel book. Since it was an estate sale, I asked what else they might have and they mentioned . . . a full-size upright freezer in the garage. $25. That's right... TWO freezers in one day. This one is in great shape, too. It was a total bargain... much better than the chest freezer already tying up the car. Getting it out of the basement was a pain. We had to remove its handle in order to get it through the narrow basement doors. Now it sits in their garage. We'll be heading back early tomorrow with the flatbed trailer to pick it up.

Then we went to the new house and offloaded everything. I verified that the chest freezer works.

And coming home, we almost ran out of gas. But that disaster was averted by a small town gas station that charged about 50¢ a gallon too much. We bought two gallons and got home.

Tomorrow will be another busy one. First, it's off to the estate sale to pick up the upright freezer. (I still can't believe we got it for $25.) Then it's to the new house to store it. Then we go home again, change cars and set off for Nashua New Hampshire, about 90 minutes away, to pick up more auction wins.

If it sounds like we're busy, we are. I've only told you about half the things going on of late. Yesterday we drove to Brattleboro to buy a headboard for the queen-sized, motorized bed we won at auction a few weeks ago. The new mattress (can you believe we actually bought something NEW??) from Amazon came in the day before that.

We've put in most of the kitchen cabinet and drawer lining paper, and one curtain rod and curtain (the dining room.) We bought queen sized bedding at auction, and the new house's washer and dryer have now been put to use getting them nice and clean. We've been buying carpets and non-slip rug pads for most of the rooms. We bought a wood stove rated at 2,500 square feet for $1,000 and paid the guy $150 to deliver it. That was a pretty good deal, but I might have mentioned it previously. And... the place is starting to feel like a home. We really need some couches and an entertainment center, though.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
