Forget the spotted lantern fly. A different pest is killing trees and confounding scientists, and it has gotten precious little attention.
A species of nematodes, or microscopic worms, has been ravaging forests for years, and scientists don’t know how they’re spreading so rapidly or what, if anything, can be done to stop their march and save infected trees.
