Parasitic worms are wreaking havoc in U.S. forests

Forget the spotted lantern fly. A different pest is killing trees and confounding scientists, and it has gotten precious little attention.

A species of nematodes, or microscopic worms, has been ravaging forests for years, and scientists donâ€™t know how theyâ€™re spreading so rapidly or what, if anything, can be done to stop their march and save infected trees.
