Re: “Here is the New Hampshire State’s announcement of the repeal of the gambling tax. ”
Thanks! The next time I play the suckers' lottery (which I only do if the pot is above $1 billion), I'll keep it in mind.

BTW, have any of you noticed that billion-dollar lotteries have become more common? They changed the rules to make winning less likely but big jackpots more likely. Between Powerball and Mega Millions, I bet there will be a billion dollar drawing every three or four months from now on.

With Mega Millions, they also implemented something called the "Megaplier." If you select it, you multiply your NON-JACKPOT winnings by a randomly selected 2, 3, 4 or 5 times. 3 is the most likely. The Megaplier has no effect on jackpots and costs $1.This is a particularly devious scam to extract more money from people. Most of us who play occasionally don't read all the rules and don't understand how the Megaplier works or that it's an unnecessary expense if all you're shooting for is the jackpot. It won't multiply 'THE BIG ONE.'

The best that the Megaplier can do is to turn a $1 million second place prize into a $5 million second place prize. Personally, I'd rather buy two $2 tickets that both have a chance for $1.5 billion than a single $3 ticket that gives a lesser chance at $1.5 billion and a greater chance at $5 million.

And you're not going to win anyway, so you may as well just blow less money on a single $2 ticket and have approximately the same amount of fun.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

Here is the New Hampshire State’s announcement of the repeal of the gambling tax.

New Hampshire Department of Revenue Administration 109 Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301

TECHNICAL INFORMATION RELEASE TIR 2011-001 Date: May 18, 2011

Repeal of the New Hampshire Gambling Winnings Tax

The Legislature passed and Governor Lynch signed House Bill 229, which repeals the 10% New Hampshire Gambling Winnings Tax

set forth in RSA 77:38 through :50 (Chapter 144:249, Laws of 2009 and Chapter 371:1, Laws of 2010). The repeal is effective for gambling winnings received on or after May 23, 2011. Therefore, any gambling winnings taxable under RSA 77:38 through :50 and received before May 23, 2011 are still taxable and are required to be reported and paid on or before April 15, 2012.
The Legislature’s passage of House Bill 229 does not apply the repeal of RSA 77:38 through :50 retroactively and, therefore, those taxpayers who reported and paid New Hampshire Gambling Winnings Tax for gambling winnings received between July 1, 2009 and May 22, 2011 are not entitled to a refund based upon the repeal.
