Black flies mark the end of winter and the start of Bug Season. We go from black flies to deer flies to mosquitoes. Ticks are present for all of the above. Then it's back to winter.

When I first visited NH in 2003, there were no ticks. Now it's to the point where it's impossible to walk to the garden (100 yards) without picking up at least one. Sometimes just walking to the car (25 feet) across the gravel driveway is all that it takes. I don't know of better evidence for climate change than that. Ticks didn't used to be here. Now they are.
