To think that the “Margaritavilles” he sang of no longer exist, overrun by tourists and commercialism, just like most other places around the world that became famous since the 70s. I have been to Key West a few times, including back in the early 90s, before the onslaught, and the last time on New Year’s in ‘20 right before Covid, and it was two different worlds. I have no desire to go there any more. Like I have no desire to go to my favorite place in the world, Mykonos, which is now unrecognizable.

“Margaritaville” one could say is only a dream now, as it survives in spirit only.
