I have a MSME degree form university of Cincinnati, a BSME from UC, a masters in theology from Cincinnati Bible Seminary, and have enjoyed the benefits of lifelong learning because of the work done to acquire those degrees.

Nobody ever asks me what my credentials are unless I applied for a position at their corporation but because I started my own at 28 years of age, I worked for myself for a long time and employed hundreds of people. I always worried about the welfare of my employees and their families and always paid them even if there was not enough work for them to come in. If one is not secure in their finances then they will not be focused at their job either.

But I love to read and enjoy learning. I have said this before but my most impressionable time came from spending about a week with an Israeli Physicist who was visiting here in greater Cincinnati and visited several other large corporations here so I was honored to have him for a day. He was SCARY smart and way over my pay grade and comprehension.. I just enjoy figuring problems out and finding viable solutions that don;t break the bank..

If one does not know and have a complete understanding of the basics and fundamentals, they can never take on things that are much more complicated. Building blocks ....

I am sure the same is true in other professions like accounting of which I had Two full years of in college. Enjoyed it but was more interested in figuring things out..

And you are right about the two years for the Masters..

Lots of mathematics. Calculus , Trig, plane and advanced geometry, Loads, materials , etc....

I think what SHART was meaning is a BSME which is bachelor of science in Mechanical Engineering . An MSME is a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

I have made a very good living using the things I learned from those programs and courses of study and have access to the labs at the University to this day.

2 things I worked on that you would know.

The Abrams Tank Hull and the Grumman f-14 fighter.

The Hull was developed at Cincinnati Milacron and Grumman made and designed the F-14. I worked on both..

Those were things I will never forget but laid the foundation and gave me enough confidence that I could start my own business and succeed at it in the bank equipment industry. The rest is history..

From Coursera:

An MS in Engineering will involve more research-based coursework, as well as a thesis and/or comprehensive exam, and will take around two years to complete. An MEng will involve more practical coursework, likely will not require you to complete a thesis, and generally will take less time to finish than an MS degree.

In other words, the "MEng (rare)" that zzfart has taken to bragging about is simpler than the MS in Engineering your son has.

But I seriously doubt zz even has a degree. The guy is a compulsive liar who writes like a six year old.
