Two House Republicans say they might work with Democrats to avoid a government shutdown

House Republicans are in a stalemate over funding the government as a Sept. 30 deadline looms, and two freshmen GOP lawmakers said that they’re open to breaking with Speaker Kevin McCarthy to work with Democrats to avoid a shutdown. Reps. Marc Molinaro and Mike Lawler both represent New York districts that voted for President Joe Biden in 2020.
