Lastly, there was this set of five Sony stereo components won for $12. It includes a Receiver, an Amplifier, a Tuner, a casette deck, and a CD carousel.

I'm not really sure what the difference is between a Receiver and an Amplifer/Tuner. Maybe one of you gents can 'splain it.

I needed a Receiver and a CD carousel... but THIS receiver (the silver one) doesn't look to have a tuning knob. Maybe that's what the "Input Selector" knob does. Or maybe I need the receiver, tuner and amp. (What a pain.) I may just give the cassette deck away.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

Another interesting win was this one for $27 (plus 15%). It's a bit of gamble. Is the plate REALLY Sterling Silver? I don't have anything to go on except the auction house's statement that it is. Sterling silver, by definition, is 92.5 percent silver, so it's worth a lot more than $27 if they described it correctly.

But it might be that the auction house is dishonest or incompetent - in which case I got ripped off.

Sterling silver merchandise is normally labeled as such. My wife dropped off the plate at the other house today so I'll have to examine it for the marking on another day.
