Re: “Why don't ya hook yer internet to a Good Router that will send the signal to all the rooms and the barn?”
We don't currently have internet. We just have my wife's cell phone. Fortunately, the property is up a hill and the reception throughout is pretty good. There's probably a cell tower in the line of sight, though *I* don't see it. The small town below has zero or one bars while we've usually got three or four.

As for the barn, it's probably too far away. It may be too far for an ethernet cable, too, though I'm not sure. The ceiling for an ethernet cable is 100 meters... about 320 feet... and the barn might be that far from the house. I need to measure...

As for your 'Why use a cable?' question, it's because cable is faster, cleaner and more secure than wireless. If that doesn't matter, then wireless is fine. But I built this house with conduits and easy access points. Running a wire is never easy, but doing it here could be easier than in a lot of other houses.

BTW, my wife just ordered some kind of a Hot Spot from Verizon. If it works as well as her cell phone, this house (and maybe the barn) will have slow-to-middling internet from now on. At just twenty bucks per month, the slow bandwidth may be acceptable to me.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

Why don't ya hook yer internet to a Good Router that will send the signal to all the rooms and the barn?

One router, no bunch of wires needed. Its what I did.

Iffen ya get a good wireless router ya won't need to run all those wires...
