My field is overrun with thorny bushes laden with red berries - hundreds and hundreds of plants. The older ones are tree-like, maybe 10 or 12 feet high. The fruit is clearly popular with the locals - who've been dining at night and crapping all over my driveway. I suspect bear, but the scat is small. Maybe small bear???

I did a little research and think that they're a plant you won't often find in garden nurseries: SILVER BUFFALOBERRY. After reading that they're not toxic, curiosity got the best of me and I had to give them a try. And . . . they're great! Initially bitter, but with sour and sweet juice. I intended to eat just half of one, but now I've had a dozen. In fact, I brought back an entire branch in case my blushing bride wanted to partake, but she demurred. Perhaps tomorrow - if I don't get violently ill or become Mr. Hyde during the night...

I've been cutting the plants down with shears and have probably taken down a hundred, but now I don't want them completely gone. Just CONTROLLED. They sort of remind me of Sweet Tart candies, but with a little juice...

Four photos follow.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months
