I've been extremely busy of late - what with auctions, auction pickups, working with plumbers and builders, gradually fixing up the house (minutia such as shelves, curtain and rod installs, towel racks, cabinet knobs, etc). I bought two futons Friday which got DRENCHED on the way home (they were on my flatbed trailer) when rain was expected to be 90 minutes further out. It was sad. If the rain had come just twelve minutes later... but, oh well. Those things are like sponges and may well be ruined. I don't think they'll dry before mildew sets in, though I've set them on end and have a high power fan trained on them. Fortunately, they were bought at auction and were only TWO DOLLARS apiece! I bought a big barrel-shaped smoker (you've no-doubt seen the type) for $500 new - but with a $350 gift card ... and now need to assemble the smoker. We purchased two very expensive laser printers a few days ago for $150 and have been setting one of them (the Dell C3765) up. It needed drivers and toner cartridges... just got that in the mail today... and the machine is finally working. (The seller said he'd spent about two grand on that Dell plus the extra paper tray. The same model with the same accessories currently runs $1,600. The second printer, a Xerox, is also pricey, but not AS pricey.)

My wife and I are heading out Sunday morning to do pickups at two more auctions. One includes a full Pioneer stereo setup - turntable, receiver, cassette deck (yes, it's that old), nice looking speakers and a standard glass cabinet. $37. Tuesday, we're looking to buy someone's ATV with a snowplow blade add-on.

A less expensive auction-win came in the mail today. Shipping was free. See below. The cross and two of the rings are sterling silver. The auction house is unsure about the third. We spent $22 winning them, plus a 20% seller's premium... = $26.40. I really wish I had a gram scale to know what they weigh. (My wife thinks she's got one, somewhere.) Sterling silver is 92.5% silver. Silver traded today at $23/oz. The photos, unfortunately, are not to scale. The cross is about 2 inches high, not counting its large bail.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

Four pieces of wood art won for just $2. I'll probably hang 'em in the barn. If I ever set up a bar in the basement, then maybe there...
