Remember when the ACLU wasn't bats**t insane? It's been a hot minute ...

It's as if someone said the ACLU couldn't get any crazier and they took that as a challenge. Case in point:

ACLU (@ACLU) ~ BREAKING: We're suing Tennessee for their “aggravated prostitution” statute that targets people with HIV with harsh punishment and lifetime sex offender registration.

This law is unconstitutional and disproportionately affects Black and transgender women.

So they're suing Tennessee for making it illegal for prostitutes to knowingly spread HIV. You'd think a sex worker with HIV would know that having sex with people will spread the disease so if they do it anyway that should be illegal. Also, they claim this law will disproportionately affect Black and transgender women.

Hrm.

Alrighty then.

They continued.

ACLU (@ACLU) ~ The law elevates engaging in sex work from a misdemeanor to a felony based on someone's HIV status – a protected disability.

How does contracting a sexually communicable disease qualify as "a protected disability"???

You can't knowingly give someone Cerebral Palsy.

You can't knowingly give someone Down syndrome.

This is not the same thing.

ACLU (@ACLU) ~ People who are convicted must register as violent sex offenders for the rest of their lives, restricting their access to housing, employment, and social services.

Welp, maybe they shouldn't have sex with people knowing they will make them sick.

ACLU (@ACLU) ~ Instead of criminalizing HIV, which disproportionately targets people who are already socially and financially marginalized, lawmakers should invest in evidence-based public health support for people with HIV.

Tennessee, we'll see you in court.

Again, this is about people DELIBERATELY spreading a disease.

Not helping those with HIV in general.

codestitcher (@zhiheather) ~ Didn't have "ACLU comes out in favor of knowingly infecting people with a permanent, costly, and potentially life threatening STD" on my bingo card today, but here we are. 😳

We didn't either and yet ... here we are.

Yeah, especially when a rational, responsible ACLU would be, instead, going after all of the many violations of Constitutional rights being perpetrated by The Stasi of Biden's Department of Injustice.
