Tonight's auction included a Dell Inspiron 3668 computer, shown below, along with a monitor and mouse, which we won for $8.00. It looks to be a really nice system from 2016 or later. My sense is that the entire auction was from the house of a proverbial little old lady. Much of what was being sold had a woman's touch to it, and everything was going - so I'd guess that she either died or was being put in a home. From the start, I suspected that the computer was probably lightly used could be a bargain. My intended ceiling was $31. Fortunately, nobody else in the auction audience was thinking the same way.

The auction also included a heartbreaker. A flat screen TV described only as an "LG" was selling for $1. A look at the back revealed it to actually be a Pioneer Elite 50" Plasma TV. A google search showed the set selling for around $3,500 (when new)! We put in a bid when there were only 6 minutes left and had it at $9 for a little while. Then $13. Then $23. Our final bid was $101. The competition took it for $106. *sigh* Oh well. Life is full of small disappointments. It's only a TV, though a very, very, very nice one.

UPDATE: In the course of writing this post, I tried to pull up the auction history and there is no record of the Pioneer Elite. It's been removed - which makes me think that the auction house invalidated it. LOL... all that work and eventual disappointment, for naught! I wouldn't be surprised if the children of the prior owner called the auction house and told them that the TV was *NOT* for sale! Or that it was supposed to have a starting bid of $500. Or that in calling it an "LG" when it was actually a "Pioneer," the bidding was ridiculously lax. In any case, the lot is gone and I take that to mean that it's been invalidated. I've never known that to happen before. Before an auction, yes, but after? Never. I bet, though, that the auction terms allow the house to invalidate a purchase right up to the time of payment.
