President Reagan did pull some of our WWII battleships out of mothballs and had them refurbished and modernized and 'We' did use them to very good effect a few times. (One of the improvements was to install tomahawk cruise missiles on them.)
But the antiques were really not very cost effective any more. And I don't think they could keep up with the Carriers . . .
