De,
I am sorry. I find myself not thinking or focusing as I should among other things. That in addition to with struggling to get ALL of my memory back which may not come back..

To answer your question in simple terms, YES, the Old Testament is as much part of the Holy Scriptures as the New Testament.

For many centuries the Israelites and others lived the Torah which were the first five books of the OLD Testament
and were given by God to Moses to record and to permanently write.

Moses is the author of the first five books of the Old Testament and I do not think there is any shadow of doubt that GOD Himself chose MOSES personally to be HIS representative here on earth and to Lead HIS chosen people out of captivity to serve HIM and give then their own land and country, That Land is what we know as Israel.

God used Prophets and Priests who were of the Levites only to proclaim the scriptures to the People and the Scribes copied each Jot and Tittle precisely like a Copy Machine to keep them preserved throughout the ages..

I have held in my hands one of the oldest Bibles in the world at a Bible conference several years ago..

It was Martin Luther who took a stand to make the Scriptures available to The People and not only for the Catholic Church clergy.. Thus the Bible began to be copied and made available to the masses of people so they too could have a copy of God's given words thru His chosen vessels who were Holy, dedicated men of God with pure hearts and considered themselves unworthy to even write the Words into English..

I have a list of the scholars of the Greek and Hebrew language that were used to put the scriptures into the King's English which was Elizabethan English at that time. These were the pre-eminent Greek and Hebrew Scholars of the world back then in the beginning of the 1600's under direction from King Henry.

These esteemed scholars were divided into Groups who each translated portions of the Scriptures into English, and then another group would check their work and after that, a third group would check the checkers...

I have a list of many of these translators because they were used , and did not consider themselves even worthy to do this, to bring the BIBLE to the English speaking people of the world so they could have a copy of God's Word..

THAT includes the OLD Testament Scriptures which are a part of the entire Bible and Words and laws GOD gave to man, thru Moses and the other Holy Men like the Apostle Paul as a prime Example.

Theology:

There are TWO distinct covenant periods covered by the Scriptures. Before Christ and AFTER Christ.

The OLD TESTAMENT was looking forward to HIS Coming and the New Testament is all about HIS coming to earth in the form of human flesh and a New Covenant and age..

In the OLD Testament Forgiveness of Sins was accomplished by an animal Sacrifice for Atonement. The Blood of bulls and goats were offered up to God according to His Law and directions in the Old Testament. A SIN Offering it was called.

With the Coming of Christ, we have a New Covenant and a new testament and are under Grace and not The Law..
The Blood Saacrifice of Christ was sufficient to pay the Sin penalty for all people of all ages. All the people need do is cometo Christ for Forgiveness and that Blood Sacrifice He made cleanses their recorded of all their Sins and makes them white as snow in the eyes of God..

So, YES, the OLD Testament is very much still valid as it lays out much of the groundwork and contains much wisdom and knowledge for believers today. God DID NOT do away with it nor its wisdom.. He still wants obedient people who will devote themselves to Christ .

People do not realize that the Old Testament POINTS at Christ and Looks Forward to THAT DAY of His Coming as Messiah.

So, YES, the OLD Testament is very much God's Word andit will also never perish but will be in eternity with all who are in Heaven and those believers who will dwell on the earth as well.

I know this was lengthy and I could on for days, but YES, the New Testament is what we live under now, a NEW Covenant, and NOT under the LAW as the Mooslims claim to be by some NON-prophet who was not Jewish nor called by GOD.

Satan is an IMITATOR. God has Preachers and Missionaries. Satan has False Prophets who pretend to be called from God but pervert and twist what God actually gave us in His words.

In Abraham shall all the nations of the earth be blessed.
Not thru some made up system of religion.

We live in the age of GRACE after Christ where much of the old testament requirements upon the Jewish people do not have any application to Believers today.. But there is PLENTY of Wisdom in the Old Testament and things given such as the Histories, what GOD said and was recorded that is still in effect.. Lessons to be learned about living AFTER Christ came and ascended back to Heaven when His purpose was fulfilled.

Did you know a person could be saved or Born again during the Old Testament age as well as today? Salvation was thru FAITH even then as it is today.

So, yes, the words of God given thru HIS prophets and men who served Him are still very much part of the Scriptures today and contain much wisdom and Ten Commandments which GOD did not rescind. Fortunately we live under the Grace of Christ and not Jewish Law because men cannot keep the LAws of God.. THAT is why we need forgiveness and a Savior..

OKay, that about wraps this up and I apologize for length.. I could preach for hours but thisis not that forum!

Have a Blessed Day De!

My best,

micro

Re: “Psalms 12: 6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”
I know you were tired when you wrote that, so thank you for the time! But I was hoping for a more straightforward response, perhaps along the lines of "Yes, the Old Testament is just as valid as the New" or "No, the Old Testament consists of parables and allegory, not gospel."

The issue of course is that the Old Testament has God laying many horrible requirements upon his children, telling priests to perform ritualistic animal sacrifices, directing that witches shall not be suffered to live, mandating that those who commit bestiality be put to death and that those who "sacrificeth unto any god" other than the LORD shall be put to death. Death is also mandated for adulterers, adulteresses and homosexuals.

That's a problem. If the Old Testament is legitimately the word of God, then the Muslims are about the only ones who are doing what God wants. If the Old Testament ISN'T the word of God, then then we should just say so and free ourselves of the hypocrisy.
