Okay, let me start off by saying that I do NOT envy the playoff committee's job. Woof!
There is only one way Alabama and Texas will play again, this year ... if they both make it into the 4-team playoff. Michigan is in and Washington is in. There is a case to be made for Texas and Alabama to be the other two teams, but that means the committee will have to disregard an undefeated Florida State team, which would be unprecedented ... not necessarily wrong ... just unprecedented.
I hate that the Florida State QB got hurt. He was having a GREAT year, but we also lost our star running back Jonathon Brooks, who was one of the best running backs in the country and we have kept on going. The ACC is the weak sister Big 5 conference ... the strength of schedule in that conference is downright lackluster ... but, you have to give them credit, Florida State did beat LSU early in the season. However, watching that ACC Championship game, last night, was like watching a junior high school football game. Pathetic.
IMHO, the committee is better served to put an SEC team in the playoff than an undefeated Florida State because, let's face the truth, even with its second-string QB getting over his concussion in time for the playoffs, Florida State is NOT one of the best 6 ... or even 8 ... teams in the country, right now. Problem is, if the committee puts an SEC team in the playoff, that has to be Alabama, AND another one-loss team beat Alabama head-to-head in Tuscaloosa - Texas.
Soooooooooooo ... the committee would have to come up with Michigan at 1, Washington at 2, Texas at 3 and Alabama at 4 in order for a possible Alabama/Texas rematch to occur ... and even then, both Alabama and Texas would have to win their first-round games.
Oh well ... I'm not going to complain if Texas doesn't get selected for the 4-team playoff. They faced the adversity of losing key players through the season and still came out on top of the Big 12 with a very convincing championship win.
