the fuel economy is significantly better nowadays on gasoline cars. My Tuscon SEL PLUS get 30.4 MPG at 78 mph..

That is on the interstate of course but not bad for a decent size SUV..

I don't know what a hybrid would get but I would not complain about excess of 30 MPG with an SUV..

Similarly, my Sonata Sport gets 38 MPG at 78 MPH when traveling on the interstates...

Not sure how much advantage there is with a hybrid vehicle..

I wouldn't buy an EV

An EV is out for the near term because:
1. I won’t have a car I can’t put gas in in case I am away from a charging station, and
2. I can’t put a charging station in my house. The power box is on the west side and the garage is on the east side. It would be too expensive to route the power.

The most I would do is get a hybrid but that would still have a big enough battery to start a large fire.

But, I usually get this far and then wonder what I would gain by buying a hybrid with its higher costs and marginally better gas mileage. I guess that is my answer.
