Amazon has a pair of Blue Agate bookends, 2 -3 lbs total - so a little smaller than mine - for $28.68.

I'm not finding Amethyst bookends on Amazon. But an "Amethyst cluster" of ½ to 1 pound is $39.99.

So that answers that question. Amethyst runs four or more times the price of a comparable mass of Blue Agate. And Blue Agates of 30 lbs can't even [easily] be found while there may be no upper size limit for Amethyst. It's a crystal. It probably just grows and grows, with the size dependent upon conditions and allotted time.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

Re: “The amethyst geodes I posted about previously were probably 3 or 4 pounds...”I found them. These were the BLUE AGATE, not amethyst, bookends I won in June. One weighs 1 lb 13 oz. I didn't bother weighing the other bookend as the two were individually wrapped and packed up. I figure it's about the same.

I'll do a little digging and see if agate is more valuable or less than amethyst. I only know that I paid $27 for the pair.
