In my medical adventures, I scheduled a colonoscopy for late March. It will be my first. I'm a little concerned because I sometimes have problems with my heart when I sleep on my left... it starts pounding. But it wakes me and goes away promptly if I just change how I'm lying. If it happens when I'm sedated though, maybe it would cause a heart attack. Will they ever have me on my left side during a colonoscopy? Hopefully not, but I'll make a point of telling them of this concern.

Then there's the heart issue. If you remember, I wore a meter for two weeks and it detected an episode of ventricular tachycardia. My doc then had me do a stress test and echo. The stress test actually failed. That is, THEY failed - by misconfiguring the machine. I was fine. But whatever they hoped to accomplish with that part of the test didn't get done.

The echocardiogram, on the other hand, found right side enlargement.

While my doc told me not to be overly concerned, he set me up to have an MRI.

Would you believe that my insurance company wrote me back and declined it? They said that there was insufficient evidence.

Moreover, the letter said that my doctor had been informed and could challenge the decision. But when I'd heard nothing a month later, I contacted him and found that he hadn't been contacted.

I sent him copies of the two letters I'd received and am now waiting while he slugs it out with the insurance company. I imagine he will win but, for now, there's no telling.

Gold is $1,581/oz today. When it hits $2,000, it will be up 26.5%. Let's see how long that takes. - De 3/11/2013 - ANSWER: 7 Years, 5 Months

Re: “...and now I have some ball growing in my abdomen area. what's next?”
IF the news winds up being bad, take heart knowing that 3 cm is not particularly large. They classify tumors by size, with each classification being two centimeters larger than the prior - so 1-2 cm, 3-4 cm, 5-6 cm, >6 cm. The smaller the tumor - if that's what it even is - the better the chance that it is contained to the colon and that it has not spread.

Also, colon cancer is not one of the faster moving ones. It won't be like nemo where he got the news and a few months later he was gone. You would have years of miserable therapy to embrace and horrify us with.

That's my understanding, anyway.

But let's hope it's benign. That would be great.
