My wife just picked up some auction items in Manchester and is on her way to another town near it for more. One of the Manchester lots was only described as "Floral Etched Green Depresdion Glass Pastry Dish" [sic].

We're pretty good at spotting uranium glass, even at an on-line auction, but it can come in various colors and sometimes fools us. We thought this elaborate dish was probably uranium glass and, as it turns out, it is. My wife has a small black light on her keychain.

Unfortunately for future buyers, the auctioneer must have seen her checking... or, perhaps coincidentally asked her if that's what it was and she showed him. It will probably be the last time that auctioneer sells a piece without identifying it as such!

My guess is that this piece would have sold for $40 to $60 if he'd mentioned that it fluoresces under a black light. There are collectors out there who will pay a lot for interesting pieces... which this definitely is. They usually outbid us.

Our gamble on this piece paid off. We got it for $17.

many years ago I bought one of those for miz micro as a surprise gift. I went out to a major shopping mall close to my factory at lunchtime and picked it up.

I thought I would surprise her with it..

She wore it exactly zero times in ten years.

I finally just took it over to the Salvation Army for them to sell and see if someone would actually wear it.

Ya has to have the right kind of wife who likes this type of outerwear for it to actually ever be worn.

Miz micro is not one of those kinds....
